about Alex
Online Abuse
Part of her passion comes from helping people deal with hate. As one of over 7.5 million adults victimized by stalking and bullying, she understands first-hand how debilitating the crime can be on a victim’s self-esteem, family relationships, and on the victim’s professional reputation. People who become the object of a stalker, a revenge campaign, targeted bullying, or a conspiracy theory campaign can find themselves at a loss as to how to combat the attacks. The results can be emotionally and economically devastating.
With social media platforms being largely unmoved by the hate and harassment people experience online, many (including perpetrators of online abuse) failing to understand their rights and responsibilities online, and the law and law enforcement lagging behind technology, victims can feel completely helpless to battle the attacks. She set out to change that.
Today, in addition to running one of the most successful online-abuse focused, crisis management firms in the country, Alexandrea Merrell sits on the Board of the HONR Network, a non-profit dedicated to protecting survivors and the family members of victims of publicized violence and mass casualty incidents, who are then targeted online by conspiracy theorists, organized hate campaigns, and other forms of online abuse. Through Orndee PR she provides guidance to celebrities, brands, and private citizens targeted by online attacks. She also provides assistance through speaking events, workshops, and consultations to companies, educational institutions, social media platforms, and official agencies seeking to understand and combat online abuse.
“Stalkers and bullies gain power by controlling your behavior and impacting your life. They rob you of your self-esteem, steal your joy, and try to damage the way in which the world sees you. I love to help people take all of that back. I am personally empowered by teaching people the 4C's of Personal Crisis Management; how to compartmentalize the attacks to limit damage, how to cope with the emotional and physical effects, how to combat the aggressor(s), and how to regain control over their lives, their brands, and their reputations.” Alexandrea Merrell
